What is a natural way to get rid of small house ants?
Question:Boric acid isn't doing the trick and I do not want to bomb the place. Does anyone know of a way to treat for ants when there are pets in the house?
Answers:
I used plain household white vinegar, put it in a spray bottle and sprayed the area. I also used this ant gel that i got from Home Depot that you put down in the path of the ants that do not immediately kill them but they carry it back to the nest and it kills the whole colony. I was surprised it actually works.Good luck.
Find where they are coming in and put diluted bleach along the track they are using also they are sometimes baffled by a chalk line across their path I think it messes up their smell trail. Clear up whatever it is that is attracting them in the first place such as where you make tea and coffee( spilt sugar)
pity you can't get an echidna or armadillo... lol
ants actually use light and landmarks to navigate... so a chalk line alters the lighting of the area and makes them go "wait there wasn't a wall of white stuff here last time... so where am I?"
Ants don't like soap. you can take a spray bottle and put soap in it and then spray where the ants are comming in. Now you will need to do this often because the soap don't last that like only like 3 or 4 days. Also, on pet dishes put soap on the bottom and around the edges, this will keep ants out of the bowl.
No, not short of renting an anteater. What we do (we also have pets and are concerned too) is buy poison ant spray (Raid) and find the spot where the ants come IN to the house. It's usually from the pantry or under a cupboard, not in a plain open area that our pets might get into. A couple shots of spray where the ants come in to the house will stop the ant trail. You might even be able to trace the trail to outside of the house, so you would spray there. It works for our house, the ants seem to get the message and go somewhere else.
