OK age old question, how I keep slugs at bay ?

Question:I in th South Lakes, we quite wet !! have taken over a plot
which is a bit stoney, have got raised beds for veg, but
having massive prob with slugs and ants..any advice ??

Answers:
real ale must be used when enticing slugs - any old lager or beer will not do - I think it is something about the slugs being attracted to the hops.

Whilst salt stops the little blighters in their tracks, the sticky mess that is left behind for you to clean up is vomit inducing, so I wouldn't recommend if you are of a queasy nature.

Salt does NOT melt the burgers. What it does is dry them out, making their skin/body crack as they dehydrate. The slimy mess that is left is their innards having broken out of their body. Not a nice way to go.

Broken eggshells and ground oats are a eco-friendly way of keeping the little blighters away from your crops - their sensitive 'sluggy' bodies don't like the feel.

If you have plants in pots that are being attacked get hold of some copper tape and secure this around the pot - the copper causes a reaction (would imagine a burning sensation) which our slimy, of no use, little fiends don't like to cross.

if slugs are worms, salt helps but I don't know how it would effect the rest of your 'growth' -
good old fashioned salt.
A friend of mine used to lay out shallow dishes of beer in her strawberry patches. The slugs which normally go for the strawberries, were more attracted to the beer, and drowned in it. (what a way to go).
Try some bark or egg shells.
Beer works like a charm
To keep slugs from your flower or vegetable gardens an old fashion remedy is poor a stream of table salt around outer edges and inner edges of garden wall or stones terraces or what ever you use for a border- regular table salt melts the slugs(uses their own acid to destroy them).
Slug pellets are good. I don't know if ants can harm your plants but they are hard to get rid of.
Try the Royal Horticultural Society or Bloom's of Bressingham.
They may be able to give you advice.
Bury jam jars up to there neck in the flower or vegetable beds and half fill with any old beer
the slugs can not resist they slide in and drown, my old uncle has used this method as long as I can remember
PS
It is also good you get to to drink the other half of the beer
Broken egg shells for the slugs. Even in wet weather they can't get across egg shells. As for ants, find their nest and give them an eviction order.
Snails & slugs LOVE marigolds! Buy a few & plant them in each corner of your garden area & get up early the next morning (as the sun starts to rise) & you will find your marigold plants are covered with the hungry creatures! I suggest you keep an old coffee can just to "collect" your morning "finds" of the snails & slugs. In this can, you then fill it to the top with water, put the plastic lid on it & the little beasts will all drown! You can also crush them if you choose to have "instant gratification"! Keep salt & poisons away from the garden. These critters don't need a mate to reproduce, so I like to kill them as soon as I spot them. They like to hide out in the shade during the day & feed at night & return to the shade just as the sun rises! Have fun. You can find them by following their "trails" that glisten in the sunlight & disappear when watered.
there have been many methods on how to kill lugs such as jars with bear in them, but this also kill beneficial insects as well that keep other pests at bay. salt is just crap,

I would say the best way would be to plant companion plants so the slugs will eat them, and leave other alone, just pick slugs off and kill them.
don't think you will keep a slug at any BAY, they don't like salt.
sorry.
Just a sprinkle of salt on the slug will do the trick .
And the slugs will not come back .
Broken egg shells.put round the base of the plant, sharp sand, slug pellets
salt kills slugs but be careful you don't put it over your plant or over there roots it kills them too,or you could try slug pellets you can get them from any garden store or centre.
