I have bugs on my cement steps!!?
Question:The bottom step at my back door is all broken so there are cement pieces and rocks everywhere along the boottom. I just moved into my house so naturally I would like to have the place cleaned to my standards. I started sweeping up the rocks and found a ton of silver like bugs. They are not silverfish. They are fuzzy looking with a ton of legs. They range from like 5mm to 1 cm. I am at a loss at trying to figure it out and I cant find anything on the net about them. I am in alberta canada so if someone can let me know what these things are or give me a decent site for information that would be great. :)

Please see this picture. They are called "Silverfish", we get them here in North Carolina, generally around and under rocks.
SILVERFISH
Silverfish are small(1/2 inch)primitive insects that are found in dark, damp, warm places throughout our homes. They prefer starchy materials such as cereals, wallpaper and book bindings as food but in large populations they may do damage to cotton and linen fabrics. SILVERFISH CONTROL
SILVERFISH CONTROL---NON CHEMICAL. Air conditioning, dehumidifiers and increased air circulation will help to decrease silverfish populations wherever practical. Removing the food source will help most. In basements and attics these are most likely boxes of old clothes and books. In infested closets all clothes should be removed, cleaned and returned after the chemical application has dried.
SILVERFISH CONTROL---CHEMICAL. A good residual insecticide such as Demon WP should be applied every 3 weeks in three separate applications. These multiple sprayings spread over many weeks insures that the egg to adult cycle of the insect is completely broken. Pay particular attention to the molding at the top of the rooms sprayed and behind bookcases, etc. In addition to a good residual spray a release of a good aerosol in key locations will aid in control. Populations of silverfish will be found outside during the summer months. During these hot months a good perimeter spray around the house is recommended to prevent reinfestation. This spray will also deter roaches, ants and spiders from invading your home.

Pill bugs or sow bugs maybe, if they can curl up into balls. Both are fairly harmless, and are great for composting. There aren't many other kind of many-legged bugs. If their bodies can wind around they might be some kind of centiped or millipede.
Dig out most of the dirt, and replace it with sterile sand and gravel. Then they won't have any food, and you probably won't see them around so much. Add a little diatomaceous earth if you want. that stuff's not fun for bugs, and it's all natural and non-toxic.
