Hubby weed eated Hostas and Day Lillies down to the ground, will they come back?

Question:I live in Kentucky. And my Hostas and Day Lillies were just starting to look good when my husband decided to weed eat this afternoon. He said they looked like "weeds" to him. I could have KILLED him. All that is left are little STUBS where the plants used to be. Is there any hope for the plants to return any time soon? Or are they done for the season?

Answers:
Grrrrrrrr! I feel your pain. The good news is they will grow back. I feel your pain my neighbor knew that my weed eater was brokenso while I was at the store, he ran his weed eater through my wild blackberry patch he also thought they looked like weed. Just give them a little a water and keep and eye on them. If the ground starts to look dry ,water them again. They should come back. Good luck ho life of a gardener.

The plants are fine...your hostas are perennial & your lillies are bulbs...bother grow from beneath the ground...the hostas will return just like if a rabbit chewed on them, but you may or may not see your lillies around Sept., depending on the variety...I know the Stellas will return in about a month.

Take hubby on a garden tour one afternoon...LOL
Day lilies will return next year. Finished for this year. Don't know about hostas. If they are bulbs like lilies, then my educated guess is that they'll react like lilies.
