Help with lillies...?
Question:could anyone please tell me what the red bugs are on the lillies that are growing in my garden.
Thank you :D
Answers:
I don't know if this can be answered without an accurate description of the insect. Are they really tiny, like red spider mites? Or are they larger beetles?
Currently, my lillies are covered with juvenile box elder bugs, which are bright red - however, they don't damage the plants.
Are the red bugs on your lilles destroyng the plants? If that's the case you have Red Lily Beetles. You will find black stuff on the leaves - these are eggs. Scratching around the base of the plants will usually reveal many more.
There are a variety of insecticidal/pesticide sprays - check with your local garden store for the one that works on these beetles. Some people use Neem oil with a few drop of dish soap...
Good luck!
the red bugs on your lillies are lily bugs and they eat away at the lillies you can buy bug killer to kill them
Lilly beetle, you will also find a maggot larval stage which looks like a maggot which is about a third of an inch long. The adults will eat the leafs and the larval stage will overwinter in the soil near the plant. You need to treat with a systemic insecticide to kill the grubs which are going to eat the roots. My wife goes on beetle patrol and squashes the adults every morning to protect her Star Gazer Lillies.
Hope this helps.
Lily beetles. Kill as many as you can - or they will kill your lilies.
They are slow moving and easy to catch.
I had that problem and all I had was oxy clean 3 scoops into the watering can Luke warm water no more red bugs great for black and green fly too.did not do any harm to the plants.
