How much for 40 sq meters of slate for roofing?

Question:My builder has changed the tiles (reclaimed, which we had) we were going to use for dark slate and charged us £2.5k for approx the 40sq m needed (not including the fitting). Does this sound reasonable?

Answers:
My husbands a roofer and he says slates are between £1 and £2 each, so a reputable firm should charge between £360 and £400 for the slates, but you have to include labour and the other materials needed, like battoning and lead to seal edges.

Of course it is reasonable. Next time you see him ask him why it is not feet. (US) Have him show you how big is a meter. If you do not care how big it is---just keep writing those checks to build your house. When it is done --- move it. ..
30 pounds a meter
