In sewing, what is a nap?

Question:

Answers:
Look at a piece of velvet. See how one way it is dark turn it end for end and the other way it is light.
Nap is the name for the raised threads on the fabric.
If you are sewing something out of these types of fabrics you need all the pieces to be cut from the same direction so the color will be the same.

It is the way the fibers in the material lay. Fabric with a "nap" is like mohair, suede, terry cloth, etc. I hope this helps.
A nap means the way a run goes; for instance in velvet or cordorouy, a nap would mean if yu look at it one way it is one color and if you look at it another it is another color, so when you want to be sure what you are sewing will all be one color. Hope this helps.
