What is the normal temperature swing for a fridge/freezer?

Question:My new side-by-side GE fridge seems to have a temp. swing of 60 degrees. The freezer goes from -20 to 40, and there is condensation in there. It is full of food. The fridge portion goes from about 35 to 45-50. It is mostly empty. Do I need to get this serviced? I am aware this is not safe for food. I have also tried to set it colder, but this happened when it was on setting 7 (and 9 is coldest).

Answers:
Sounds like the compressor is in trouble. Sporadic failures usually come right before total failures, so yes it's time for a call.

Full of Food? Time for a party, man!
