Why don't electronic mosquito devices kill mosquitoes?
Question:You know the contraption... the device with the bright light in the middle...that goes ZAP when a flying insect crashes into it. Well, I don't understand why they don't catch mosquitoes! Mine doesn't anyways! It does catch flies and gnats, though. I don't think mosquitoes are attracted to light... ?
Answers:
Most of the insects that get caught in those "Bug Zappers" are attracted by that weird florescent light. Mostly moths and the occasional June bug. Mosquitos on the other hand are not attracted to light, they are attracted to Carbon Dioxide. Since mosquitos prey on warm blooded animals, they hone in on co2 since all living breathing animals emit it and that is where they find dinner. There are currently several devices on the market that repel mosquitos. Check out this web site http://www.mosquitobuzz.com/control/mosq... ...Hope this helps.
It doesn't kill them, just makes them fly backwards and out of your house.
Mozzies prefer your blood baby and not the lights of a night club
those light tubes are ultra violet light, and don't attract all buggs. some thing can be placed behind the grid, so yhey will fly towards the bait and get zapped, but unplug the unit first.
That grid has better than 12,000 volts, and give a nasty burn.
You can get this contraption that is basically a fan with a bit that you put a repellent tablet into. The fan acts like a glade plug-in and expels the repellent consistently throughout the night, or day, which ever time you need it, and in my experience, has saved my back from elephant man syndrome. Friends of our family used to borrow it every time they went on holiday.
