What kind of bugs are these?

Question:We live outside of Atlanta and have these little (almost microscopic) reddish bugs that fly around in a group like gnats, only these things bite or sting. They make your skin itch like you've been walking in tall grass. We knew something was itching us, but didn't see them until they got on (a BUNCH of them) a white t-shirt.

Answers:
They are probably a species of gnat. Gnats come in a variety of colors and sizes. At first I thought chigger, but chiggers don't fly.

they are flying red ants.
We call them chiggers or redbugs in Florida. Be careful of them, they can burrow under your skin and cause awful itchy welts. If one gets to you, use clear nail polish over the bite and it will smother it.
