How do you kill ants if the ant traps are not working?

Question:

Answers:
spray white vinegar on them. it will kill them and not harm house pets.

Someone sent me an e-mail that said put out piles of cornmeal, the ants carry it back to their "nest" and end up dying because they can't digest it. It's worth a try, plus, it's safe around kids and animals.
get fresh ant traps or put baking powder over the trail . that's what my grandma used to do and i do it now too. They take it back to the nest ,eat it and explode
ant spray
I just saw a TV ad for a Raid product that sends some kind of foam stuff into the anthill's tunnels.
Hire a slave to kill them. Or buy an anteater. Or sweep the crap off your floor.
Call an exterminator.
depending where they are pouring boiling water on them will deal with the problem and gets the nest too (bit cruel I know, think of all their kids screaming as they boil to death) OR spray bleach on them but that is a slower death.boiling water cost nothing..
If the ants are outside you could use the age old trick of putting boiling water on them!
hose the ant hill down!(with a water hose!!) that way the anthill will be completely destroyed and im pretty sure the ants will be way too pissed to build another one at the same spot. it works for me!! but if the ants are indoors, you have a problem. in that case, just use bug spray when you see an ant. they'll just die instantly.
Terro found at most stores... baby powder...
When we were living in Mobile Alabama a local resident told us a couple ways to get rid of ants (and they worked for us).
See if you can find the ant nests (this is usually for yard type ants). Using a shovel, transfer a shovelful of ants from one nest to the other. They will fight until both nests are dead.
The tip he gave me for indoor ants was to mix borax (found in the laundry aisle in the store) with powdered sugar-dry. About 50-50 and sprinkle this where the ants can get it. They take the borax back to the nest and it kills them (its poisonous to them). Also try wiping down all your counters and floor with a strong ammonia/water mix. Ants hate ammonia. Worked for us-might work for you too. Good Luck
You need to find out where the nest is. If you do not kill the queen they will keep coming back. And keep the kitchen and other areas of your home where food is eaten or prepared sanitized. They are attracted to sugars, sweets, crumbs, any food source that they can pick and carry back to their nests.
Put about an inch of orange or grape soda in a 16oz bottle cut the top off turn it over so the cap treads are inside the bottle set it out near a trail and check it in a couple days. i'll bet there's hundreds of dead ants in them. safe and works!
You could experiment on them, and see if all the ants (of the same species) fall over on the same side when they are fed alcohol.

Been told its true, but I don't know.

Maybe if you get enough people together they'd all want a go. The ants would notice something was up, maybe think that there was a predator eating them, and then they would move elsewhere.

But seriously.
If they are eating something they really like they will not be going for the ant traps They must be eating something. Would it be possible to identify it and remove it from the location? Lack of food might force them to move on.

Ants lay a scent trail which they and following ants use to find the way from the nest to things they need. They cannot tell which direction the trail leads, so you can have them run on to piece of paper, turn the paper around, and with careful arrangement send it back the way it came from.
