Slugs on my Hosta?
Question:Help - Do you grow Hosta's? Ours are under attack by ravenous slugs & snails - we've tried pellets, egg shells, broken glass & elevating them off the floor - but they still keep getting munched on. How do you protect yours?
Answers:
Pound shop slug pellets, mine are in large pots as I have tried these in the ground and they must've been eaten as they disappeared!
try a small tray or bowl with some beer inside, they like a little drinkie. just remembered they dont like bark mulch either. lol
Slugs love em..I grew Hostas just to keep the little bighters off everything else...You need lots of bait and do it daily but as above, they do like a little tipple !!
NC has tons of slugs, they even get in the house. The best barrier I have found is baby powder. Sounds really dumb, but it shrivels them up so fast. Iam not sure how to use it on the plant, but if the were cleaned off of the plant, you could spinkle the talc on the saucers. They were coming in under our sliding doors til someone suggested the talc. So I sprinkled it in the track --- no more slugs.
Salt kills all slugs. You can use regular house salt for this.
I used copper pipe around my raised bed this year,so far ok click link to see how copper works.

Slugs love hostas because they grow in shaded, moist areas. I had good luck with beer. Just put some in small containers and push them into the dirt. The slugs are attracted to the smell and then they drown. What a way to go eh?
Try sprinkling bran around hostas. It swells up in the slugs!
I have grown hostas for many years, I have found using crushed oyster shell or bird grit (from the pet shop) worked best for me. you need to place it all around the plants just as they are starting to come up. and in the evening inspect the plants and pick off any slugs,
Slug pellets normally work but you can put a circle of salt around the hostas
