This is the bat house I built http://www.batcon.org/bhra/economyhouse. I have two and the bats seem to like them.
Place the house so that it receives a minimum of five hours of sun daily.
Extend all vertical partitions to within 2 inches of the bottom of the house. this reduces the amount of light reflecting into the crevices & allows more bats to cluster together, making the house temperature more stable.
Make sure you paint or stain the outside of bat house a dark color, like black or brown, to increase the solar heat gain of the house.
If mounting a bat house on a post or a tree, attach a 2 ft. wide aluminum sheet (used for newpaper printing) or sheet metal below the house to prevent climbing predators. Paint the predator guard with dark paint to reduce glare into the crevices, and enlarge the guard periodically on trees to accomodate the tree's growth.
When placing something on the ground below the bat house to catch the guano (bat droppings), do not use white or light-colored materials because these will reflect too much light into the house.

Bats are good neighbors to have around. A single brown bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitoes in one hour. They are a great natural pest controller. You can help by providing bats with a nice bat house in your neighborhood. Bats like tight and warm spaces. They like it to be 80 to 100 degrees in July when they have their young with them. The bat house should be placed in the sun and around 12 to 15 feet off the ground to prevent predators from getting them.
