Is it cheaper to run home ac at 80 during peak hrs, or to run it to 85 and cool the home again @ off-peak hrs?
Question:Our home is 1400 sq ft. S-N facing. My wife is a home maker and we have two children. We are willing to bear it with fans and all if necessary, but are the savings really worth it?
Answers:
DP is rite, set it at 80, leave the fans on, especially during peak periods. If you raise the temp during the day, it's uncomfortable to begin with and it'll take a long time running to try and lower it back. We don't realize just how much heat can be retained in the walls and furnishings of a home. We leave our ceiling fans on at night also but raise the AC to 80 (78 during the day). Also, if you haven't got a digital and or programmable thermostat for the AC, you should consider one, $30 to $45 and they pay for themselves in a month or two and are much more accurate. Look at some here; http://www.luxproducts.com/thermostats.h...
Your local home center (Home Depot) will have them.
Hope this was helpful :-)
its best to keep your ac at a constant temperature. If you have fans, that helps out alot. Try leaving the ac at about 2 degrees above normal and keep the fans running
