Any tips or tricks on getting rid of snakes around your home...?

Question:I'm only asking because I walked into my kitchen earlier today and almost stepped on a big black snake. Scared the living H*E*C*K outta me!!!
I live in the country, mountains on all 4 sides, and I was wondering if there was anything I could spray, or plant or whatever around my home to keep them away from the house.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Moth balls will solve your problem, just line your property or home with moth balls place in the ground

I've always heard a cat is a snake repellant. Also I have seen a fence thing you can put up around the perimeter of the yard that will keep them from being able to get into your yard.
get a pet king snake, they kill other snakes
You don't mention the species of snake you encountered. It could be that he was completely harmless, except to the mouse under your cupboard. If he was in your kitchen, he was most likely in hot pursuit of some vermin you would dislike more than the snake.
Learn to identify different snakes. If it is venomous, a flat shovel works well. If not, place it outside in the garden.
