Problem with copperheads in Eastern Ky.?

Question:My sister, who lives next to me, found a baby copperhead under her deck, a week later I found another baby copperhead in my small flower garden adjoining my walkway just a few feet from my front door. We've searched for more to no avail. Not even an adult copperhead. We purchased SNAKEAWAY, but the container reads that it won't affect copperheads. Any advice on keeping them away? I have a 3 year old granddaughter who loves to play outside.

Answers:
Copperheads are tough to keep away. The active ingredient in the "SnakeAway" is aromatic naphtha, which is moth balls for 10 times the price. Neither will keep Copperheads out of your yard.
Cats will hunt and kill snakes. So will Guinea Hens, if you live in the country. Keeping the yard mowed short, clearing debris, removing wood piles, etc. will help by eliminating hiding places. Put lattice up around the deck to keep your granddaughter from going under it. And remove any thick mulch from your garden. Snakes are cold blooded and will be drawn to warm places like a mulch bed.

Get some cats..maybe alot of em.
Ok, had the same problem and this is what I was told. They love mulch. It keeps them warm. I was told to put mothballs around where they have been seen. I tried it and haven't seen any more but I also got rid of mulch pile. Hope it works for you.
