How to harvest chives grown in a garden?

Question:I have chives that are growing little 'balls' at the tops of them. Are they ready to be harvest ? How to do that & how do you dry them out and how long ?

Answers:
Cut off the balls, as the stems will start to get thick and coarse.
I cut mine with scissors and then cut them into little pieces , I use some and store the rest in the freezer( do not wash these ones) in an airtight container, this way I have fresh frozen chives all year round, and you can keep doing this all summer. We have 4 seasons here, so they only grow in the summer.
They are just as tasty when you thaw them out or add them frozen into something you are cooking.. a bit moist but still tasty...You can also dry them cut up on a cookie sheet, do not put in the oven , let them air dry and store in a glass container in a dry spot.

You leave them in the ground, and just cut off with a pair of scissors what you need. That way they go on growing all season, and you'll have the chives fresh.
Use scissors to snip them from the garden. The little balls may mean they're going to seed. Just snip these off.
To dry chives just place them in a paper lunch bag and keep them in a cool, dry place. They should be dry in a week.
Chives can be harvested at any time they are large enough to use. The flowers are also edible and make an interesting addition to your salads.
