Lowes/home depot do sell snake repellants although I dont know how well they work...
Gartners wont hurt you... they usually avoid people anyway.. but if you are scared of them I would give the repellants a shot. Just ask someone at your local home improvement store.
p.s. Gartners CAN bite.. but they wont. I played with them as a kid.. I have never ever been bitten, I've jsut heard it CAN happen. They are harmless!
Get rid of all the Gartners - the snakes will leave on thier own ! Ha Ha Ha ! Why would you want them gone?

"How..."? WHY would you get rid of Garter Snakes ? They 're mild-mannered, innocuous , ( & cute? - OK - YOU probably aren't going to buy that one.;D) & eat slugs . Even though they're ordinary , they still have some snake-"cool" . Leave 'em alone .
Unless you have a snake phobia, just let them be. They're harmless to humans and actually quite beneficial. They eat all kinds of bugs and slugs and creeper-crawlers. And creepy-crawlers are definitely yucky.
