Which is the best womery?

Question:I sort everything else and only have my kitchen waste to sort now and want to get a wormery.

Does anyone have one and can you recommend it for food scraps...nothing else.

Answers:
It does work but its not as simple as it sounds, you really need to keep an eye on it. If the compost gets too wet or dry or acidic, the worms die. So drain off the liquid often, and add crushed eggshells to balance out the acid.
The big ones are about £50, but you can make one from any plastic bin. Drill a hole near the base and fit a tap which you can get from places that sell homebrew gear. Put something like perlite (from a garden suppliers) in the bottom for drainage with a sponge nest to the tap to stop it getting blocked. Line the bin with bubble wrap. Put a layer of coarse weave fabric over the perlite, and make a coarse weave fabric bag to put the worms and compost in.
For substrate use some sphagnum moss and shredded plain paper, and get as many worms to start with as you can. Too few worms and it just doean't work.
When you take out the compost it really has to be sterilised before you can use it because it'll have live worms and eggs in it. You can do that by leaving it outside to freeze solid in winter.
The worms are a bit expensive as well, but once you get it going it does work.

As for brands, this is a good one;

And the small one at the bottom of the page is ok;

Ok, you got me! What the hell is a 'wormery'?
Are you wanting to make compost or raise worms? Either way, you need to add more than just food scraps to your project.
For a small wormery, purchase a styrofoam cooler, with a lid. Punch small holes, all over the top of the lid. Add your food scraps, torn newspaper, a bit of dirt and mix it well, purchase red worms and add them to the mix. Cover it, with the lid and place it in a cool location. The worms will change the material into compost, in a few weeks.
