Do the vaccuum Storage bags really work?
Question:Have lots of large winter quilts and stuff was wondering if the bags are worth the price... do they stay sealed over time?
Answers:
Yes and no. They work well for quilts, comforters, pillows, and winter coats that have down or polyester filling. They're not so great for wool blankets or coats, sheets, or most clothing. They work by removing all the air and compressing the contents. If the contents don't have any air to remove, they don't compress very far.
Do not overfill the bags or you're likely to have the seals pop open. Never carry the bag by the edge when it's full. If you have cats, don't store the filled bags under the bed (experience talking here). Let the filled and "sucked" bag sit out for a few minutes to see if it starts taking on air through a hole in the bag. You might be able to patch it with duct tape, but too many holes and you're better off just chucking it.
I recently tried them, and I love them. I had a laundry basket full of clothes that I wanted to store for winter, and they are tiny now. The bag has stayed perfectly air tight. I bought mine at wal-mart and haven't had any problems... My hose on my vac was a little big, but it still pulled out the air right. If you're not sure if you'll like it, get one of the small bags and try it out, then if you like it you've already got some storing done and if you don't then you haven't wasted a lot of money. :) Have a great day!
Yes it saves alot of space i use too use plastic bins too store winter items. the vaccume storage bags saved me space in my closet i can put everything on my top shelf now without a problem.
They do work really well, but be very careful how & where you store them. If they get a hole in them, you don't know until your quilts are back to full size in the bag! Make sure you have them sealed properly too or they won't work.
Yes.
