When is the best time of day to mow lawns so it will not die out?

The risk to the grass from mowing is that the grass blade once cut open is susceptible to infection by fungus. So what is really needed is for the grass to have a chance to heal as quickly as possible and for that it needs to be dry. So the best time would be late morning on a clear day, giving the dew a chance to clear and giving the grass the bulk of the day to dry off. Also, you don't want to mow wet ground because the soil will become compacted, so water the day before, or if the weather is rainy, mow a day after it has stopped raining. The other things which one should keep in mind when mowing to reduce lawn stress are keep the blade sharp, which makes a clean, small wound to the blade (a dull blade will make a jagged rip) and to mow frequently enough so that no more than 1/3 of the blade is removed (sometimes this means mowing more than once a week, sometimes it means you can wait 2 weeks).
The same logic, BTW, applies to watering. You want to keep the grass wet for as short as possible becase fungus likes water. So water deeply (most people don't) and only when necessary, and do it in the morning (like 9-10 AM) on a clear day giving the grass the day to dry out (some people water early AM to avoid competition for water pressure or due to local ordinance but this leaves the grass wet longer). Sometimes I will water during a light rain or heavy dew since the grass is already wet. If the weather is extremely hot it is ok to water the lawn at midday to cool it off (11-12AM, usually against local ordinance) and doing this prevents some kinds of fungus.
wednesdays
aviod the peak heat of the day. early morning and late evening are best.
Die out ? Most people cut the lawn when all the dew evaporates around 11:00am
probably at the coolest time a day at about 9:00 or ten in the morning. or right when it's about to be dark.
In Hell we mow the lawn at 6 so the heat won't kill you.
early morning or later in the evening
Mid morning, or late evening. When it's not too hot, but has dried the morning due off.
in the afternoon...after midsun because if you cut in the morning the leaves are cut open and all the moisture can get pulled out...afternoon it starts cooling down and safer for the lawn...
Do it when it's still somewhat dark.. early morning, late afternoon.
In the evening. The lawn will not get dehydrated if the weather is hot and the morning dew will water the lawn. Leave grass cuttings on the lawn if it is very hot to reduce evaporation.
After 7:00pm.
4pm and on winter time 5pm&on
I don't think the time of day matters so much as watering the lawn directly after mowing. Although the cool of the day, morning or evening, is better for you.
morn or eve
In the morning after the dew is dried (cut it wet & you have a mess) or early evening. Hubby always leaves the clippings in the grass to not only nourish it but keep it out of landfills. Our back yard is really crappy because it used to be part of a landfill so the grass only grows in spots. But when we do it this way by the middle of May we have a lush lawn.
It is best to wait until the sun has dissipated all the dew from the grass. Wet grass shouldn't be mowed. Have to mow about 6 acres every week.
lol @ don't cut wet grass, yeah i'm sure alot of mexican gardeners who need a paycheck agree with that."hey family we can't eat this week because the grass is always wet, and i have to wait for it to dry". you can cut your grass anytime you want. It's not the grass cutting that damages your grass it,s when you water it,that's why they invented sprinkler systems. see if you water the grass after you cut it and the sun hits it, it burns the grass, sprinkler systems and hoses water grass alot more than morning dew. so if you cut your grass, water it later at night so you don't have to worry about the sun burning it. ever notice most sprinkler systems come on at night?
