How do I get doggy odors out of my carpet (w/o getting rid of dog or carpet)?
Question:Carpet old, dog is new ... can't replace carpet until I get out of school next year. Tried steam cleaner, didn't work. Also tried Febreez ... works for about 1 minute. Any suggestions?
Answers:
I clean the carpet & spray vinegar on it. Takes the stink out & helps so the dog wont have accidents on it anymore
Cover it with an area rug.
If you used a home carpet cleaner, the rental ones do work better, so it could be worth a shot.
try odoban found at walmart
Depends on what is the actual cause of the odor. It could either be a doggy dander build-up which usually vacuuming and steam cleaning will remove- or it could be a urine smell. Urine smells are a whole other ball game. You would need to take up the carpet from the tacking and remove the pad underneath. (the urine soaks through the carpet to the padding but, when you steam clean it doesn't clean that far down). You would have to buy a new piece of pad and lay it under the carpet. Good Luck!
Use an enzyme cleaner. Try Totally Toddler. You can get it in the baby section of Walmart, Toysrus, Target, etc. It's like 4 bucks for a huge bottle.
They make 'special' enzyme cleaners for pets but it is the same thing and about 4 tiems as much.
Use it with a carpet cleaner instead of shampoo and viola-stink free : )
Okay first baking soda and either rose oil or peppermint oil (you can get at any health food store). Take 1/2 to 1 cup baking soda and 2-3 drops of oil (just use one of the oil not both), mix together in a bowl. Then let the mixture stand for about 15 minutes. Then from the bowl sprinkle the mixture onto the carpet. Then it be on the carpet for at least 30 minutes. The baking soda will neutralize the odor. Good luck
Best product, hands down, is "Urine Gone". I had the exact same problem in my bedroom. Damn cats kept peeing and pooping in the corner. I tried steam cleaning over and over but the smell persisted. I decided to try Urine Gone because I'd seen it on TV and it worked. I now have kittens who are doing the same thing and I've been using it for their messes. Works like a charm.
If you go down to your local pharmacy and ask them for a product called "NILODOR" if they don't have it they will order it for you ..it comes in two forms a spray aresol and a small container in oil form ..get the oil form and then just put a couple of drops of oil in the spot that is a problem and that's it no more odor and the dog will not go to the bathroom there anymore ..good luck
You can try Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution from the pet store. I just hope the urine is in the carpet only. If it's gone into the pad or the floor everything has to come up, and the floor has to be sealed.
Ferbreeze.
