Bug Problem?
Question:I have bugs in my basement. They look like ants and sometimes there are very tiny black ants without wings crawling around with them. They don't look like any flying ant photos I have seen. They don't exactly fly even though they have wings, they just sort of flit around. They show up by the tons every so often and I can't figure out what they are or how to get rid of them. I tried to take a photo but they are so small that it was blurry. They have black bodies and brownish tinted transparent type wings. Please help...I don't know what to do with these things...I usually suck them up with the sweeper.

I've had the same problem in the past. They aren't termites and are in fact flying ants. Here's a picture: http://www.hatchmasters.ca/flying%20ants...
What can you do about them? Give this a try:
Peppermint Oil Repels Ants
Peppermint Oil for Ants
I was thrilled to death to find a suggestion about using peppermint oil to deter ants. It works great! They won't cross the lines that I painted and just the fumes alone have driven the rest away. And it's cheap! A bottle from the health food store was only $4.99 and a little goes a very long way. But make sure you wash your hands before you touch your face or anywhere else more delicate.
A couple of drops on a counter, spread with a damp sponge or on their favorite areas (including under the sink) keeps them away.
Use a fogger. Cover all items you dont want to be "misted" and then set them off according to manufacturer recommendations. They work well and will kill all them buggers.
They sound like gnats or fruit flies. Is there anything sweet in your basement?
Go to Lowes or Home Depot. They have spray that kills and repels bugs (including **** roaches and silverfish) for up to a year with one spray around your house. It works because i used it in my basement. I cant remember the name of the stuff but it is advertised on television and is one of the few products on the market for this problem. Comes in a white spray jug with a red top and red nozzle.
