Why can't I buy a home generator as whisper quiet as those in motor homes?

The quiet one's on motor homes usually run about $2000 and the one's you buy from local hardware/home improvements stores are about $600. You can purchase a high end Onan generator for about $2000. Or a lot of other high end generators may carry less noisy sets. Basically, you get what you pay for.
The quiet ones tend to be more expensive, are you just looking at cheap ones? Did you try a recreational vehicle dealer? I imagine the same generators are optionally packaged for stationary use (for a price)
check out honda,or some other japanese makes. most are really quiet compared to my coleman 4000. my buddie put a honda civic muffler on his,so theres ways to quiet them down.
