I live in NY and the last few weeks I have noticed these very tiny red bugs on the patio. know what it is?
Question:They are extemely tiny, about the size of a pin head, and when they are squashed leave a red stain. There seem to be a lot of them. Any ideas on how to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated. I think they may be a mite of some sort, but not really sure.
Answers:
if we're talking about the same bugs, these little guys seem to be a common problem. i think they're called predatory running mites. they're completely harmless to humans though.
they're all over the rock i sit on in central park. these little guys can't hurt you so don't worry.
check out this site and compare them if you're worried.

They are mites, and are able to be killed by normal bug spray.
