Question regarding insect control, moisture and mud...?

Question:Hello. I have an above ground pool with a large deck around it. It is well ventilated around the sides but under the deck there is usually mud, moisture and lately a nasty odor. Common sense tells me this can't be good. I am concerned about the mud and moisture promoting the breeding of insects and promoting the growth of mold and mildew. Just wondering if anyone has an inexpensive solution to the problem that is suitable for out door use. I wouldn't want to use anything that is toxic to the environment or that is harmful to animals and I really don't want to spend a lot of money. Thanks for your answers!

Hi Jenny Jenny! I have two solutions for you - the first one your husband won't like, and the second I have not tried firsthand but did know a neighbor in a neighborhood that I grew up in that did.

Solution #1 -
We both dump our spouses, you move to Texas, and we both enjoy my inground pool with a view of a man-made lake without any worries associated with an above-ground pool. It will be of no cost to you - I'll pay for your transportation to Dallas and you can be my stay-at-home trophy wife. I'll pick up the cost of our honeymoon too - where would you like to go? If you like this, no need to move on to #2! (Hey, does anyone else hear loud sirens? Why is there a SWAT Team on my neighbor's roof looking through my office window while holding sniper rifles?)

Solution #2
---------------
I'm flabbergasted that you are reading this, and utterly heartbroken. Really, you could knock me over with a feather right now.

Growing up as a young kid in Michigan, I had a neighbor that used to put a bunch of kitty litter under his pool! No fooling - he claimed that if it worked for his cats peeing and shitting all day in a box in his house, it would work for that! I still wonder if he had to "change it" every once in a while, but I can't recall. I never noticed any smell or insects after that, but then again I was busy 'hitting' on his older daughter at the time and striking out miserably.
