How much do you pay for gas heat in the winter?
Question:in your home? How large is it and does it include other things like hot water or cooking gas? I just wanted to compare because I think something is terribly wrong with my gas bill. I rent a 2 BR apt. and live with one other person and our gas bill has been as high as $600 in one month. We keep our heat at 63 degrees and our hot water and cooking is also gas. Just wondering if that's a normal price.
Answers:
I live in a two bedroom house about 1200 square feet with 9 foot ceilings and keep the heat at 60 degrees the majority of the day and our gas bill is about $350 a month, this is with hot water and cooking gas.
First 30 Ccf $ 0.7274 per Ccf
All over 30 $ 0.3181 per Ccf
NOOOOO!
I live in a 2 BR and freeze my *** off at 64 degrees and my bill is about $150! This is including hot water and cooking.
Oh my lord thats damn near my electric bill in summer down in Texas okay actually its closer to 300-350. As for gas we now live in ND for the time being since my husband had the wild idea of moving us up here so he could watch as his men which were transfered here completed an E85 plant.. Man what a bad idea. The home we live in now and mind you with windchills outside this past winter it got down to -48 yes I said NEGATIVE. Anyhow its 4 bedrooms, 2 living, dining, eat in kitchen, full basement, library and computer room with 3 full bathrooms 2 stories (not counting the basement which is also heated and air conditioned)our highest bill was 230 and I keep the heat at 70-72 max we also put plastic inside and out on the windows close off rooms we do not use and even put draft towels down in front of doors that lead to the outside as well as to the basement and any other doors that have a draft comin in from under them. We live in a very old home which is why we do all this our water heater is also gas.
My father lives 300 miles from me his home is larger then mine and his gas is cheaper then mine is and he does not ever do all the winterizations I do.
Yikes! Where the heck do you live that gas is so expensive? I live in the north east US and use LP gas for heat, hot water and cooking. I keep the heat at 68 and my gas bill in the winter is about $600 for a 2400 sq foot home.
I live in a 2500 sqf house in Pennsylvania that has gas heat, water heater and stove for cooking. My house is about 150 years old and before I started to renovate it had plaster and lathe walls (which don't contain insulation) as well as the original single pane windows. Last winter when the price of oil was through the roof, we kept the heat at 65 and our average bill was about $750-$800. Since then, I've started to insulate, replaced the windows, and got a more efficient boiler and even with the heat at 66/67 the bill was still $550 on average. I'm slowly starting to insulate the rooms, but that requires me to rip everything out, insulate the walls, and then put everything back in. Lots of work!
I would say that it is possible to have a bill that expensive depending on where you live. Perhaps turning the temperature down on your hot water heater a bit might save you some $$ as well as plastic over the windows, electric space heaters, etc. I know where you are coming from and it really stinks. I was depressed the middle of every month when I got the bill from the gas company and was almost afraid to open it.
