What is the BIGGEST mistake you can make when having a Garage Sale?
Question:I've been to enough garage sales in my life to have a pretty good idea of how to have one, however I'm sure there are big time garage sale "no-no's" that you don't know about until you've actually experienced them! So I'm not wondering what to do for my garage sale, I'm wondering what NOT to do. Anyone have any experiences or advice? I'll really appreciate any answers and the more the better! Thanks all you Yahooer's! Marcy - Northern Illinois

not pricing EVERY thing. It causes people to drive you nuts asking constantly, and I won't ask if it doesn't have a price.
Location , location ,location. If it's to far from the people they want come.
alot of people look at their old stuff and place too much sentimental value on it- overpricing. if it means so much to you that you can't part with it for a reasonable price- take it back in the house.
I used to make a lot of money holding yard sales for people. I pratcically did it as a job all summer long.
1. Don't sell crap, sell things that people will buy not just whatever
2. Make things neat and organized... So things are easily found.
3. CHEAP! Be cheap the cheaper the better.
4. Offer drinks and snacks
5. Put up signs or adds in newspapers at least a week in advance, be specific as to what you are selling
6. Try to hold it during a community yard sale theres a lot more people coming.
7. Be willing to barter ...
8. Put the bigger items up front, like furniture
I noticed childrens things sell the best ...
Anything else feel free to email me!
I have a big sale yearly...some one made the suggestion to always have it first week in month.they are more money flow around this time.
Good Luck
I agree, don't overprice. Also, don't lay all the clothing out on a blanket in the front yard. It will get so picked through that it will look like a heap of junk about an hour into it.
Try to hang the clothing up if you can to avoid that mess.
Also, don't follow people around and try to sell them your things. Yard sales are supposed to be low pressure, friendly shopping experiences.
Good luck!
Don't not mark everything,Don't not have the check out by the exit,Don't ever leave your money unattended. My daughter had a yard sale at 25 cents a piece --they were stealing the 25 cent jeans.Sorry to sound mad but we thought to get rid of stuff not to be ripped off.The last day we had bags for a dollar and all the clothes went.Hope you sale all you want to...
You need to watch theft, keep an eye on everyone! I once had a grandmother come to my house who stole me blind with her two grandkids. She distracted me while the 2 kids were loading up her van. Very nice old lady, but goes to show you can't trust. Come to find out she got busted, did the same thing all over the state. good luck
make sure you have change. Do not accept checks.
