My suggestion would be to clear out like the living room or dining room first and use that as your "staging" area. Then systematically go through each room boxing up anything and everything that you can and putting in an organized manner in the staging room. Do that for every room in your house until all the is left to do is clean. Then on moving day you will already having everything in one area, so no running from room to room to load things up. It makes it easier that way. LABEL every box as much as you can...from the room that you got in from in your old house. That way when you reach your new house you can decide where the appropriate place for it is. Good luck and I hope that helps!!

1. buy uniformly sized boxes. Something relativeley small that one person can carry. Focus on getting as much stuff into those boxes as possible.
2. Pack according to the rooms in the new house. Don't write where the box came from- write where the box is going.
3. get a truck big enough to get everything in one trip. Friends with pickup trucks are nice to carry extras, but don't count on them as your only means.
4. Put all the "big stuff" in the truck first. Dressers, beds, cabinets, etc. pack it all to the "front" of the truck.
5. use mattresses and blankets to provide cushion between large items.
6. after you get "big stuff" packed- load in the boxes. heaviest on bottom, lightest on top.
7. Its best if you get someone to stand in the truck and pack it, while everyone else just keeps bringing this person stuff.
8. If you are going to use friends and volunteers, reward them- feed them when the job is done. Pizza or cold-cuts is usually fine.
Good luck!
Lots of boxes, place enough made up ones in the middle of the room that you are packing, keep a stash of newspapers for wadding. The pack, pack , pack.(I usually use my towels and bedding to package my breakable things)
MAKE SURE you label up the boxes with a BOTH a brief description of the contents as well as what room you want them to go in - that way you don't need to open a thousand boxes to find the one item you are looking for in your new house.
