Cleaning above ground pool?

Question:we bought a house that has an above ground pool. It's got the hard walls. The people before us did not take care of it. There was at least a quarter inch of grime all over the pool. The pool store told us that scrubbing and chemicals would take care of most of it. It did, but everytime we sweep along the bottom more crap keeps floating to the top. I need to know how to take care of this without draining and starting over. It does have a sand filter with it. Any suggestions would greatly appreciated!!

u may want to try to back wash your filter first sounds like your vacume isn't working.when your filter inside gets really dirty u sometimes loose suckshion power, make sure nothing is clogged up in your hose or your vacume head,,

my neighbor does pools she
told me don't get in it and do anything until u vacume the bottom out cause it will stir
things up,, u need to put the pump on waste and vacume the bottom that way all the stuff doesnt go through your filter but put your water hose in there while doing this cause your water level will go down,, it took me a about a day to vacume mine out i would vacume it all out then let it settle back down to the bottom then do it again,, u will have to keep checking and emptying your filter thing that catches all the leaves and stuff cause it will most likely fill up and u wont get good vacume suckshin so keep checking it will your vacuming depends if u have a lot of leaves and stuff in the bottom of your pool,, be sure to turn your pump off when u empty the filter out,, once u get all that vacumed,, then do your walls ,,,then when u put your chemicals in it make sure u put your stabilizer in the skimmer part that way it will go straight to your filter and stay in your sand,, do not back wash it for a while if u do u will loose all your stablizer,, wait about at least a week before u back wash your filter,, or a couple of days,, the stablizer might get hard in your skimmer but i took a stick and kept stirring it around for it to dissolve to go through to my filter,, if u are using any bleach products on your linner be sure u rinse it off really got or it will eat through the liner,,with the hot sun hitting it ,,,,after u get your walls cleaned i would go head like the next day or so vacume it again but don't put it on the waste just set it on the regualr filter setting,, your vacume head brushes rinse with water hose,, after awhile the sun will make the bristles break off , i learned the hard way last yr,, i vacumed my pool and the vacume got stuck to the bottom and i pulled when i did it put wrinkles in the bottom of my liner,, well the sun rotted my bristles off my vacume head brush so it was unlevel, which i didn't notice it till it was to late,, so hope this helps u a little,,

I'm afraid you WILL need to drain it to get rid of the problem once and for all. It ALL needs to be scrubbed; even the sides.
The best thing would be to drain, i know you don't want to, but its the best thing. Then scrub the hell out of the vinyl using some bleach and chemicals. Or you can always buy a new lining, they are only like 200 dollars.
let me tell you, been there done that. rented a pump at Home depot and drained what the last people who owned it thought it was a frog pond and wishing well. then took a shop wet vac and vacumed the bottom and scrubbed the heck out of it. it was half full of muck and gunk. But was nice when done. PS you can call the fire department for a small fee and they can fill it back up in mins.
Get a piece of nylon net and make a sort of bag out of it. Fill the bag with baking soda and scrub away! That should loosen any of the remaining crud and will be cleaned by the filter and actually might also clean the filter up a bit. I would try this before emptying the pool.
