Best way to kill the poison ivy plants in my wooded back yard?

Question:I know how to identify the weeds, but what is the best long-term way of killing these plants. My dog gets it on his fur and gives it to me!!

Answers:
only way ti get rid of them is to dig it up , where gloves and leave it to bake in the sun or put in in a plastic bag and dispose of it be sure to get all the roots to it

I use a shovel to get the roots and all. Be sure to wear gloves and long sleeves. Place it in a plastic bag for disposal. Do not burn it. The poison will turn to steam and be contained in the smoke which will contaminate your skin the same way as touching it. It will also make it possible to breath it and get it inside your body.
spray the leafs with vinegar , when the vinegar goes through the plant it should kill the roots. just make sure you don't spray a plant you want to keep.
