What is the proper temperature I should let my thermostat on when I am not at home?
Question:I am not home from about 9 am until about 3, five days a week. I have a small dog that stays at home by herself while I am gone, and I dont know what the poper temperature should be when I am not there. Anyone know?
Answers:
Depends on where you live and how cold or warm you like to be. Set it so your house stays around 70 degrees Farenheit and adjust it up or down to get it to where you are comfortable. If you're comfortable, your dog will be.
All thermostats have a "swing radius" of a few degrees. Some thermostats are even adjustable so you can allow for more or less swing.
It's really a myth that you can let your house's temperature drop (or climb, if you're in warmer climates) while you're gone during the day, as it takes more energy to re-cool or re-heat your house. Set it to one temperature and leave it at that.

My Mom always kept the thermostat in between 68 degrees and 72 degrees. Hope this helps you.
During the cool months set the thermostat at 66 degrees F. That is the lowest comfortable temperature before feeling a slight chill. However, if a lot of sun enters your home you can lower it to 64 or 65 degrees. The convection heat created by the sun will keep the home cozy for you during the cool months. During warm weather set the thermostat to 55 degrees F.
