Can I put the contents of the rabbit cage in a compost bin?

Question:I'm new to this composting lark but I think I get the general idea of what can and can't go in. I'm sure I once read you could put the contents of a rabbit cage in each time you clean them out, however it was some time ago and I can't now find out it this is the case. I have two rabbits and their cage consists of sawdust, hay, newspaper and rabbit droppings.

My other query is how do you know if you've got the mix right? eg browns and greens. Most of what I put in is raw kitchen waste and a small amount of grass cuttings. I've been adding the tubes from kitchen and toilet rolls and egg boxs for the browns but i'm not sure if I'm perhapes lacking in browns and need to add more.

Answers:
First can I say i wouldn't use the hard rolls from toilet or kitchen rolls ,I think you will find when you come to dig the compost into your garden they will not have broken down, the egg boxes on the other hand are a bit softer but tear them up a bit to help the process.I use everything from the hutch clean ups as long as I can put about the same amount of kitchen greens in and mix as well as you can using the garden fork if you have a border fork which is a bit smaller you can usually mix it evenly enough without too much bother I usually use straw with sawdust, and sometimes I will use the paper type cat litter to absorb most of the rabbits urine so lessening the smell in the hutch especially in the winter when the rabbits are not on the grass so often. I would also recommend some compost maker to your compost bin to help in the process.
Becarefull you don't add too much grass clippings at once as I find the grass will not mix well be sure to add plenty of straw or hay rather than sawdust as this will help to break down heavy soil.Another tip for you when you are digging the garden collect worms and add these to compost bin they will help the break up of the green waste they in turn will be returned to your garden when you apply the final mix, the ideal worm has sort of stripes I call them bramble worms great for the fishing also. But that's another story, hope this helps you good gardening

you serpently can ,neyah wats up doc.rabbit droppings make a good breakdown for your compost
yes you can. You don't mean the rabbit though? right.
Yes, you can put rabbit droppings and other cage contents in your compost.
Actually you can put anything but bones and fat from meat in your compost.
If you live where there are alot of animals, I wouldn't put any meat in it either.
As far as browns, I would lighten up on them and add more grass and brush clippings and a little soil.
The longer you let it rot down the better your compost will be.
Absolutely, add the rabbit cage litter. You should put some soil in the compost pile to introduce beneficial bacteria. This will help break down the organic matter that you add. Leaves are a very good brown also. You could turn the pile every now and then to help speed things along but you don't have to. Be sure that the pile does not dry out but at the same time protect it from excessive rain. Good luck.
You most definitely can.
I suppose you know that Rabbit droppings are only about 1/3rd digested in the first place.
In the wild rabbits and other ruminant animals go back an re-eat their own droppings to finish the digestion and obtain additional nutrients from their Poop.
Hi, try to lessen the amount of cardboard you are putting in your bin, it forms a layer which takes longer to breakdown. I place all of the contents from my rabbit hutch each week and find this to be enough paper for my my bin.
