Overgrown lawn - help!!?
Question:I work shifts including weekends and nights. Whenever I am off-duty it has been raining the day before or it is raining on my days off. Therefore my lawn grows really fast and becomes overgrown and invasive to my shrubs/plants. Is there anything I can put on the lawn to delay its growing speed! I cannot afford a gardener, besides I love gardening, it's a timing problem.
Answers:
actually the weeds are what grow fast, so a good 'weed and feed' might be in order. the more frequently you mow the fewer weeds you will have, as they do not have the opportunity to set seed. since you cannot mow the weed killer will take care of the problem and you should be able to go for approximately 2 weeks between cuts - if necessary.
hope this helps.
Talk to your local nursery. You might be able to spray it with a very dilute herbicide to slow it down. Though I would worry about weakening it. You don't want disease or insect attack.
tarmac it
I was told by a friend to water it with beer frequently then it comes up half cut!!! (Not to be taken seriously).
Unless you have an enormous lawn I would strim it first because you dont have to worry if it is wet and it won't clog up your mower. I don't think there is anything that will help otherwise.
Black polythene will slow the green army down. and you will have the only white lawn in your street.
As far as I know there is nothing SAFE you can do to slow down a lawn's growth. There are products advertised which are supposed to slow down the growth of things like conifers but I don't think they work on lawns.
