I sold a china platter on Ebay and it broke before I could ship it. What do I do?

Question:

Answers:
give them a refund and explain to eBay and the people what happened ..with a refund it should be no problem..

You refund them their money and explain to them and eBay what happened and apologise:)
refund the buyers money if he or she has paid for it in advance since it was your fault that it was destroyed before you could ship it
Let your customer know what happened, apologize profusely, refund their money, and offer them a discount on a future purchase.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to email them a picture of the broken platter so they will know you are sincere and not trying to back out of a sale because the auction price didn't go high enough.
don't just refund them right away. see if you can still use glues to seal it as a whole piece,

tell the customer what happened. maybe the customer bought it because it is a rare platter or maybe it has some sentimental reason, etc. so maybe the customer still wants it even though it is broken. and if that is the case, you can offer a discount, so s/he can be happy.

if not, explain and refund.
