How do you keep a deck on a mower from clogging?
Question:

If I understand you correctly, you are asking about keeping the discharge area free of clumps of grass which can cause your machine to choke off. If that is what you are asking, I may be able to offer a few suggestions.
Depending on the area you live and the kind of grass you have on your lawn [eg. moist, with plenty of rain, fertal soil with Bermuda or a dry climate and Fescu where you need to water often...just as examples]. You might want to thy these ideas.
(1) Your deck is set at too low a level. This may also be cutting your grass too short. It should be maintained at about 3 inches from soil to tip. Water normal and feed about every 3 weeks.
(2) If your lawn has peaks and valleys, where the thickest grass lies in the area that has the deepest valleys, you want to set your mower to cut at the highest level (peak). In other words, the area of your lawn that is the flattest is the level you want to use as your guide (3 inch from soil to tip). Mow your grass as normal. Afterwards, if your lawn isn't too large or if you can handle it, break out the WeedEater or trimmer and finish to taller areas. Just be careful if you aren't proficient with the WeedEater because it can be easy to misjudge and "WHACK" an area down to the soil. Practice using it in unseen areas like behind the garage or even in a vacant lot. After a while, you'll be good enough to cut the entire lawn with a trimmer.(not recommended)
This will keep your machine from 'bogging down' but it's a bit more work.
Another thing you can try is to level out your lawn, gradually. Using sand from your local hardware store, add some to the deep(valley) areas of your lawn after you cut and then water heavily. Before the end of the summer, you will notice a tremendous difference in the surface of your lawn.
Hey, also keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water. We don't want to get a 9-11 on you for being face down on your freshly cut grass. Good Luck.

dont mow when wet, don't try and chopp too much per pass
I spray mine with the water hose each time when I'm done, and every now and then, I will put a good coat of "Pam" non stick cooking spray, seems to work very well.
You might want to raise the mower's height. This can be done on a push mower by putting your wheel bolts into
lower holes on the mower deck.
You'll have to lower the height again, and recut your lawn.
Also try cutting later in the day, when the grass is free of dew.
Good luck, and maybe mow more often, before the grass gets too high.

Mow higher.
Don't mow wet.
