How do I best keep raccoons out of my trash cans?
Question:I've heard that adding bleach to your trash will keep them away. Are there any other ways to keep them out?
Answers:
Raccoons are clever creatures. You might try deceiving them with false trash cans while hiding your real trash cans elsewhere.
use bungy cords to hold the lid down,, bleach is good too
Try looping one of those bungy cords from one handle to the other.
Good luck!
leave a bowl of radiator coolant near the trash cans. they'll drink it and die.
rat poison or if youre into hunting like me i would stay up with a few buddies and beers and shoot em haha
We chain the trash cans to a fence so they can't knock them over and the lids can't be opened when the raccoons are standing on them.
either lock the lid or get something to scare it away (like a scarecrow in a cornfield) or, whenever they come, and if you notice it, run towards it with a stick and yell at it (just kidding)
Get a big dog like a lab not a great Dane (too big) as soon as the dog hears something it will bark it's butt off and the coon will go away
very tight fitting lids. Please don 't leave poison out. Family pets, even kids, can get into it.
How do u kept raccoons out of ur trash can. Make sure that ur trash can has tops to each can. Please do not pour bleach its not health to you if u do .also klilled the raccoons
put locks on your can and a brick on top of the lid,,, works for us we live next to the woods!
keep them in a shed/ or garage
Bungee cord lids and to a sturdy surface
Had the same problem-- They actually tore through a plastic can I had for dog food with locked handles. This was a heavy plastic can used for garbage . My husband wired the lid shut and they either ate through it or tore it to shreds. This was with 2 dogs on the deck. If you have something they want they will get to it. The only thing is to put your garbage in a locked garage or someplace they can't get into like the basement or a part of the house . They are smart critters. I believe they will attack a dog if they are hungry-so be careful!
find a trash can with a securly fasting lid. and put a strap of some sort over it to fasten it
