Why are the tops cut off?

Question:I live in an apartment complex and it has two very large pine trees. I am puzzled because the tops of both trees are cut off. They are not located around electrical lines or close to any buildings. Got any ideas why this would be??

Answers:
It's called "Topping" and although it is very unattractive for a while it will result in a fuller nicer looking tree. It is just a type of pruning for a tree.

My assumption would be if they were too tall it's possible it could lean so far over from the weight of the tree and could break off. That's just my guess.
I don't know but I don't think a licensed arborist did it- you should never top off trees like that-
Someone wanted them for a Christmas tree?
