Should I leave my tomatoes to grow bigger?
Question:The first 2 tomatoes are getting really big, about the size of an apple, but not yet ripe. The plant does have more flowers but nothing else appears to be gowing. Should I pick the tomatoes off or leave them?
Answers:
I let them grow until they rippen and then pick them off
Leave them till they turn red.
Leave them, they will ripen better and taste better on the plant.
Leave them until they are ripe, or until just before they are ripe.
you can pick them off and leave them in the sun, they will rippen.
Let them start to turn red before you pick them. Tomatoes vary in size, you can't go by that. Once they show a little red you can pick them and put them in a window in the house to continue turning red.
Let them ripen. If you're not getting more tomatoes, the plants probably need feeding.
If you pick the tomatoes of they will still ripen but I don't think they will grow much bigger than the size the already are and if they do, WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING THEM??lol
Leave them till they get ripe.
Depends on how you like them. If you like them harder or crisper, pull them now (as long as they have good color). If you like them mushy and sweeter, wait a couple days. Either way, you won't want to let them hang for more than a week or they could fall and rot.
Good on your for having a garden mate!
This could be a large variety of tomato. Leave them until they are red and ripe. Once you reach end of July, stop any more flowers forming as they will not have time to develop and ripen. Feed the plant regularly with liquid tomato feed
Leave them. Get a support..ie: stake etc. to support the weight. Patience will pay off in the end. Good luck! Bet they will taste delicious.
PS// Home Depot and Lowes have great tomato stakes!!
take them off they will ripen in a drawer, taking them off will leave more energy for the others to grow
leave em green tomatoes dont taste good
It depends on what variety they are. If they are the size of an apple, they are probably "beefsteak" toms, in which case I would leave them to ripen. Make sure the plants are kept well-watered and feed with tomato feed every week to encourage the other fruits to set. Tap the flowers gently to encourage pollination if there are no tiny "tomatolets" behind the flowers.
you can leave them till they ripen but you take a chance of them rotting. if they are turning slightly from green to red you can pick them and sit them where sun can shine on them in you house. that way they stay cool but the sun will ripen them
Don't pick them off. The other flowers will produce more fruits. You can have flowers and tomatoes on the same plant at all stages of development. The plants don't mind!
