Do ceiling fans really save money?
Question:The summers here average about 100 degrees everyday. Evenings cool to about 80 degrees. Nights cool down to the mid 60's. We're considering installing ceiling fans in the rooms we use most (family room and bedrooms). Would they really help cut costs on our electricity bill? How much does it cost (on average) to run a ceiling fan?
Our average electricity bill is about $150 per month and that's with setting out thermostat to 78 degrees.
Thanks for the advice.

Yes they do help keeps the cool air stired up I would say get a 5 blade you can get a light kit and put CF blubs save you a ton of money and the fan cost very litle to run less than 30 watts or so give it a try
if it would allow you to set the thermostat higher, then yes. it will only save you money if you use it instead of any other method.
The benefit of a ceiling fan is that moving air cools you better than still air so you feel cooler at higher temps, if you are in the room with the fan. I find that having one in the bedroom on the second floor lets me keep the first floor comfortable while living okay with the warmer second floor with the fan turning.
Hi Mari
Yes by all means install ceiling fans. They will help reduce your electric bill. The fans will cool as much as 10-15% cooler than just the a/c. Don't stop at just the bedrooms and family room-- I have them all over my house and run fans in the upstairs all the time -- even when no one is visiting-- I never turn them off in the summer they keep the air moving and lower the bills tremendously. I would not be without ceiling fans. Also if your a/c were to go out your fans can cool enough to get by until repaired. Good luck to you .
Keeps the air circulating so the T-stat is satisfied longer. Blowing down provides a cooling wind chill.
Mine run 24/7/365.
Looks like the general answer is yes. I'm in Arizona, and I wouldn't be without ceiling fans.
