When we buy Vegetables, we get unsolicited freebies like pesticides, harmful bacteria/mould. How to solve this
Question:
Answers:
The mold/bacteria is not likely a problem since the same growers who spray pesticide also spray fungicides and antimicrobials on the crops as well. The single best way to deal with the pesticide on your grocery store foods is to wash and then peel all fruits and vegetables. Until agri-businesses and the government decides that we deserve a healthier food supply and until consumers demand a safer food supply, you can work towards solving the pesticide problem in a number of ways:
Buy organic produce - it is grown without chemical pesticides and fertilizers.
Buy local food at farmer's markets - you will meet the grower and can ask them what their growing methods are.
Speak up - contact your representatives and let them know you dont approve of the rampant use of pesticides on food crops. Talk to the produce manager at the grocery store and tell them you want them to carry produce that is organic or grown without chemical pesticides.
Grow your own fruit and vegetables - this is your best way to guarantee healthy, pure food. Every summer I grow all our tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, peppers, chilis, and beans. Its super easy and very fulfilling.
buy organic fuit and vegies
I wouldnt consider the bacteria or moulds on the vegetaboles are that harmful. They would most probably be soil dwelling and not real human pathogens, unless someone who was sick sneezed on them. Moulds are mostly unsightely, but not toxic. Just need to cut deep enough. What moulds do is just release enzyme which break down the fruit...nothing more.
The worst is definitely the pesticides. But in most cases they are water soluble, so with thorough cleaning you will get rid of them. You may also use vegetable soap if you really want to be sure.
A friend of mine did part of her thesis on cleaning fruits (apples and oranges), and she said that 10 minutes with constant rubbing was optimal.
You may not want to eat vegetables which have started to sprout, such as potatoes...then toxic substances are released.
So in this day and age, it is very hard to get pesticide free anything...clean clean clean...
Why aren't you buying local for cash?: Why aren't you supporting your local merchants? Why are you paying SOOOOOOOO much more for things than you have to?
Always wash your vegetables -fill the sink with cool water and 1/4 cup of Vinegar let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes rinse and that is all have to do
you can either rinse them off well with your hands rubbing the fruit or vegetable, or you can use a heavy duty water spray and use a little soap and then rinse that off really well rubbing the vegetable with your hands.
To solve your problem..
DON' T BUY VEGETABLES..
