What could cause a full 20lb propane tank not to work.?

Question:I just had my tank refilled last week. It was working fine before the refill, but after, propane came out for about 5 mins then stopped. I'm thinking it's a stuck OPD valve.

Answers:
Removing the regulator and opening the valve will do nothing there is a safety valve that stops the gas unless the connector is screwed in.Check to make sure that the connector is screwed all the way in first if this doesn't fix the problem remove the tank from the grill flip it over and carefully bang the protection ring [around the valve] on some thing solid. The over fill protection device is a small float inside the tank that closes the fill tube when it is full so by flipping it over the float is now trying to go toward the bottom of the tank which will open the valve with a light tap.If this doesn't fix the problem then it may be the regulator has failed or the line or the orifice in the grll may be plugged.

I think you are correct.
a clog in the part that comes out or if thats not it than maybe its empty and sue the guy that gave it to u
hit it with a hammer it might get unstuck
Those simple valves can be tricky. Your description happened to us at work. I called the propane co. I said my impatient boss whose always in a hurry, spun the valve open, and our full tank from them wouldn't work. It was on our new fork lift. The guy replied, that when it's closed, you have to turn it open SLOWLY. We closed it, opened it slowly, and the lift started right up. However it occured, the OPD valve is stuck shut.
mine had a leak; take it back and have them check it out.
The valve is blocked with dirt, bring it back and get them to replace it... don't hit it with a hammer, you may cause a spark!
Hi,

Take the regulator off and crack the main valve slightly, only slightly as it will go with a good woosh.

Any **** in there will be gone.

Put the regulator back on and try again. Still no joy remove the reg. again and try to tap it see if anything is stuck in it.

Try again, if no joy it is a new reg. you want.
