Reddish gnat-like insects?

Question:I've got little bugs flying around my house- They are reddish, and when I kill them, it looks like they have blood in them, which make me question if they are actually gnats. They are flying around my kitchen and bathroom, and seem to prefer darkness.

What are they, and what is the best way to get rid of them??

Well i really don't have enough info but it sounds like fleas Have you had pets in the house and maybe they are gone now?
