Where can i find the best (reasonably priced) Air Filter?
Question:The house I'm in is DUS-TY. I really need to clean this house out, it smells musty quite often and dust collects quickly (I also think it would help my mum with here respiratory problems) , what is the best air filter small amounts of money can buy, and where can it be bought (UK resident).
Answers:
Sounds like you need 2 things--a dehumidifier and an air cleaner. The musty smell results from too much water in the air and structure of the house and the dehumidifier takes water out of the air. That usually makes the musty smell go away. They can be purchased at nearly any home improvement store. So can air cleaners which take particles and depending on the unit some smells.
However I have a unit made by Oreck called the Oreck XL. It has a filter which you wash rather than replace and a light comes on to tell you when it needs washed. It also has an ionizer that produces negative ions which helps with smells and smoke if you are a smoker. It's a little pricey but it works better than any air cleaner I have tried. I have allergies at this time of year and I can function inside without taking allergy pills. You can check out the XL at: http://www.oreck.com/air-purifiers/xl_ai...
I don't know about the UK but in the USA we have HVAC (heating & ventilation companies) that sell furnaces, air conditoners air cleaners etc.
find one like that and call them. A whole house air cleaner can be adapted to most forced air furnaces. The air cleaners not only filter out dust, pollen eetc but improve the air quality. There are numerous types available and prices vary. Check around and see what you can find. Have the company come to your house, check the air quality etc and advise you what they recommend.
