My apartment is really hot. How can I cool it down?
Question:I live in the top floor of a village house in Hong Kong. The temperature often reaches 35 degrees celcius in the summer and my apartment is always scorching hot. When I get in from work it feels like an oven.
The buildings are made of concrete which retains the heat. Air conditioning makes things bearable but still not comfortable. How can I keep my house cool during the hot, humid and sweaty summers? I have access to the roof top where I do keep some plants. Will fitting garden decking tiles help?
The heat is killing me! Help!

You need to get the air circulating.
Try to by some box fans and place then around the place in different rooms to keep the cool air flowing around. I've also noticed that, in my house, when I let less sunlight in it is cooler. When I was pregnant and needed to be FREEZING I would close up all the windows, blinds and curtains and blast my A/C. My house would be cold!! but if I leave the curtains open and the daylight is coming in... then it's almost like the AC is not working at all...
hope that helps!
You can stay cool by getting an air conditioner and putting ice down her shirt.
Keep curtains closed. There will be less heat then when you have them open. Get a fan to cool you off more. You shouldn't have to suffer in this heat.
Get a air conditiner with a higher BTU number; 10,000/15,000. I have no answer for the roof problem.
get a bigger ac unit. other than that, tough luck. summer in hong kong and most of southeast china suck.
Turn on the A/C, but either install ceiling fans or turn on fans and keep them rotating to circulate the cool air. Place them right in front of the AC. You'll notice a BIG difference
during the day while you are away keep a fan in the window facing the outside with another window in the house cracked (preferably in another room) This will keep air flowing through the house while you are away and maybe not be so hot when you get home. also may help the AC keep things a little cooler by circulating the air
Being on the top floor doesn't help. All the heat stays there.Try getting some indoor plants. They will absorb the CO2 in the air. See if you notice a difference if windows are open or closed during the day. If that doesn't work, use the AC. If it's a window unit, close the door of the room it's in and cool that room first. Then open the door. Stay in that room while the cool air works its way through the whole apartment.
Get a bigger air conditioner. More BTU's. 5000 BTU's good for 1 room, on 1st floor. Higher floors need more. Or, buy more air conditioners, 1 for each room.
You should try cooling sealent.[if possible] its like a silver color, and it reflcts the heat. other than finding something that will reflect the heat I have no other ideas.
