Take a bath...you smell and there attracted to you so maybe all you need to do is take a bath...that might be rude but hey you asked it...
Gee, I always understood that they have to rub against you to move onto you?
We were always taught to wear closed legged pants and sleeves when walking in the bush, also, wear a hat and when we got home to strip, clothes in wash and check every inch of oursleves in the mirror.
If we found a tick - someone would heat a needle with a match flame and stick it in the bum of the tick and he would let go.
I agree tho - they are grosse!
the first answers is ridiculous. Ticks are attracted by body heat and the smell of blood, not dirt.
You can buy a tick repellent that you spray on all exposed skin surfaces. Wear bright or white clothes, so if they get on you you can spot them quickly and flick them off before they attach. Cover as much skin as you can, wear long pants, good shoes and long sleeves. Don't wear fuzzy stuff (like wool), because that will give them good grip. Wear plain, smooth materials.
Avoid walking through dense bushes which are their favourite hunting place.
If they attach, get tweezers and GENTLY rotate them. DO NOT pull them off. you can buy special tweezers just for removal of ticks.
Ilive in Spain in the country and ticks are a massive problem here.we have four dogs and i remove upto 12 ticks at a time with tweezers but you must remove them whole including the head other wise they can go sceptic.
and then dab the area with pure alcohol.
but ive done it that many times over the years its become a routine now.
on humans this is a very informative website hope it helps.

Ticks fall out of pine trees, and if they fall on you they find a soft place and start digging in , To answer your Question, Go to Home Depot or Lows And buy misquotes and tick spray , It attaches to your garden hose spray around house and shrubbery , Once a month and that will keep them away, However if you are going out in the woods tuck your paints inside your sox's the ticks climb up not down, Hope this helps
Barbados you said it the way it was done for us old timers.
The clothes are important. Keep them from getting to your siin. No they do not jump. They are on branches and as you brush by they grab a hold of you.
Good answers (mostly)! I never realized ticks were a problem in Barbados; I went there once and everyone warned us about mosquitoes (they carry schistosomiasis!). What a great country, though!
Where I live, Central New England, we avoid sandy areas (with pine trees, as someone mentioned) since ticks like it dry. Another way is to get flea and tick collars for pets and check yourself and them thoroughly before coming indoors.
Scatter Seven dust around your yard.
