Household Insects?

Question:At night I hear a strange noise. Similar to clicking, but its very hard for me to describe this noise as ive never heard anything like this before. My 1st thought was a mouse but after putting traps out with no luck ive come to the conclusion its not - or it doesnt like cheese! Theres lots of junk under my bed so theres not much chance of me spotting it so just wondering if anyone knows of household insects. I only hear it during the middle of the night but it may be about during the day. Im pretty sure its not a cockroach as I know what they sound like, this isnt as loud. But it also sounds similar to when a flying insect hits its wings on windows etc. Its really puzzling me and its quite creepy too! Sorry I cant be more specific with the noise but it really is hard to describe it. Also the fact I have not seen it makes it more annoying. Maybe I will just have to clean out under my bed! Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks.

it sounds like termites to me
next time you hear it go to the wall and bang it with your hand
if it is termites then the sudden noise will scare them and the solders will click there jaws to warn the others of danger
this will also give you an indication of where else they are

but my best advice to you is get a pest inspector in as soon as possible

i just read the other answers ..the only other answer i feel may also be correct is the carpenter ant..you can hear them .

termites make a clicking sound a bit like a clock but much faster
most other insects will go quiet after you hit the wall as they are not protecting a nest

Yes clean under your bed but be carefull you don't know what's under there, it must be pretty bad if you think it's a mouse, an insect would die in a couple of days if trapped under your bed.
So are we to assume the noise is coming from under your bed? AND YOU HAVE NOT CHECKED IT OUT!!!

Good grief.

How about carpenter ants if the noise is coming from the walls? Or a cricket?
it could be a cricket, or maybe a ghost trying to tell you something
I'm not an expect by any means, but it could be a beatle, when it rubs it's wing caseing together. They tend to be more active at night.
It'a monster I tell you - a monster! I told everyone about this and they didn't believe me - now it's official - the under bed monsters do exist -

Seriously though - it could be anything - contrary to popular belief - mice don't actually like cheese - they will eat it as a last resort - but don't actually like it.

It could be moths - moths lay the eggs in any dark, dry location and when the larvae exit the egg they grow rapidly eating anything available - once old enough they will fly and if contained the noise is similar to wings on windows.

They are a bugger to find though - as they are more lively at night - and they hide themselves away in any corner they can find - the eggs will even be laid in soft toys, clothes and even in kitchen cupboards.

To be honest, this sounds like an insect more than anything - perhaps a grasshopper (found those in my house before) - or a common or garden bug from your garden.
I think a clean out is in order. Apparently maltesers work like a treat for trapping mice - as was recently described to me by a colleague....!
You may have carpet beetles. Horrid creatures, and very destructive. See this link:

Clean out under your bed and see if you can still hear the noise.
Could possibly be deathwatch beetle(just a freaky name).
Also i had great success trapping mice in humane traps with a really gooey chocolate cake, that was their fav.
