Which is the Best Natural way to keep Home cool?
Question:Hi, am from Chennai (India), Hear the summer is too Hot, can any one tell me to keep home cool (reduce heat) in natural way?
Answers:
It depends where you live. Right now, we're expecting temps in the high 80's, low 90's (F.) today, but right NOW it's only in the high 50's. So most of my windows are open, with a few fans, some pulling air in (they face out) and others pushing air IN. This really works. Then, around 11:00 AM or sooner, I shut the windows and it stays cool, esp. pulling down the shades wherever sun hits. The temperature WILL rise as the day gets hotter, but nowhere near as high as if I did nothing.
Another good way is to have an attic fan. These can be installed or you just find the vent and put a fan up there at night.
Planting trees on the south, east and west sides of your house also works well, if they're close enough to shade the house.
Porches are making a big comeback, esp. in the North, as our summers get hotter. They've always been essential in the Southern U.S., for cooling all day, esp. in houses built before there was air conditioning.
In Southern or tropical climates, where the temps don't drop much at nights, but you still want good air circulation, use "plantation" shutters (inside or out) to block the sun, but let breezes in. It will be warm, but not as bad.

move to siberia nice and cool there
Keep your windows shut and drapes pulled during the day and if the temp. at night is cooler then inside your home, open the windows to cool it off but shut them first thing in the morning when it gets warm again outside.
Open windows on shade side, and keep the sun side closed.
Keep shades or drapes closed on sun side,
Put up retractable awnings
Plant large, deciduous trees on west and south sides
Are there any trees or bushes that grow well in India? Sorry, I don't mean to sound ignorant, but I admit that I dont know much about India. If so, invest in a few trees, and plant them strategically so that the trees will shade your home in the summer.
