How can I get rid of pigeons?
Question:HELP! These dirty birds are roosting in the eaves of my next door neighbor's garage, directly beside my own back yard. They sit on the electric wires to the houses, and crap on my car, my clotheslines, and the whole yard smells bad. I need a sneaky way to get rid of them. She soes not want her little girls to see them dead/dying. I can't even use my BBQ as it is also now hit with their filth!!

Old CDs, such as those AOL CDs you may get in mail, can be hung up with string to scare the pigeons away, similar to using aluminum pie tins. Try to attract hawks, owls, or other birds of prey. Get some hawk or owl decoys. Squirt them with a garden hose.
There is also another way to get rid of them, but I shouldn't say here as it is considered inhumane.
Shoot them or poison them.
I think those plastic decoys do actually work. The Ritz Hotel near where I live has a large owl type bird hanging in the tree by their restaurant to scare off the pigeons and it seems to work as I've never seen any pigeons there at all and the city is rife with them! In New York they also use fake birds of prey that they stick up on the window ledge. Perhaps it's worth researching if they work or not or go to your local garden center and see if they have one? The one at the Ritz is hanging down on a small rope so it moves slightly with the wind which might be more realistic, I bet those pigeons are quite smart! ;-)
i worked in the billboard sign industry and had to deal with those worthless things. we used decoys of owls in the vicinity to scare them off. its best if you have an electric one or battery operated one to have the head move when a sensor is triggered.
Hawks work well. Where I work a hawk moved in to the neighbor hood and he/she/them are eating the sky rats. Go Hawks!
