Working with an architect on a new home .. got any tips on common mistakes to avoid?

Question:

Answers:
An architect should avoid most common mistakes. Here are a few of my pet peeves with home plans though:

Dishwasher next to a corner sink (no room to work; you're trapped)

Guests having to enter your home through the laundry room

Be careful of your line of vision: what will you see while you're sitting on your sofa? Will you have a straight shot to the toilet?

A lot of architects put the half bath in the foyer of a home...that's not the first thing I want my guests to see after they enter my new home.

My husband and I have been looking at house plans on-line and have decided to create our own plans. Needless to say, I've put a lot of thought into these things. :) Good luck!
